In Nevada, the following educational opportunities are making it possible for students to learn in the environment that best suits their needs.

Opportunity Scholarships – READ MORE Families who qualify can apply for scholarships to make a private education possible. Organizations that grant scholarships are listed here and can help students take advantage of this opportunity. Nevada’s tax-credit scholarship program (Educational Choice Scholarship Program) allows corporations to claim a 100 percent tax credit when they contribute to approved Scholarship Granting Organizations (SGOs). Charter Schools – READ MORE Charter schools are also public schools. However, while these schools are publicly funded by the government, they are administered independently. Charter schools are able to operate with more flexibility to create innovative learning environments while continuing to be held to a high standard of accountability. Currently, Nevada has 47 charter schools with more than 28,000 students attending. SHOW LESS

Educational Savings Accounts – READ MORE In 2015, Nevada enacted Education Savings Accounts (ESA’s) ESA’s allow parents to access a portion of the funding that the state allocates for each student that they can then use to personalize education options to their child’s needs, including tuition payments at a private school, tutoring, books, curriculum, and other educational services. 74% of Latino voters in Nevada support ESA’s – making them the largest demographic of support for ESAs in the state While this option has been approved, the legislature did not fund the program. Once ESA’s are funded, many students will be able to take advantage of this program. SHOW LESS

Homeschooling – READ MORE In homeschooling, families who want to be responsible for the education of their children in their home make use of curriculum and resources that allow them to tailor their child’s education to fit their needs. Many homeschool groups exist in Nevada to support learning at home through classes, field trips and other supplemental resources. Homeschool families must commit to teaching their children the state’s required subjects and notify the state if they want to use this option. SHOW LESS

Online Learning – READ MORE In distance learning, both traditional and charter public schools offer courses that can be accessed virtually. Classes can include material and assignments that are accessed online as well as real time classes streamed for students.
